Who we are
The Australian Trade Commission – Austrade – is the Australian Government’s trade and investment development agency.

We help Australian businesses of all sizes, across all sectors, to succeed in international trade and investment.

Operating through a global network of offices in more than 100 locations in over 55 countries, Austrade offers practical advice, market intelligence and ongoing support to Australian business.

What we do
Our job is to advance Australia’s international trade and investment interests by providing information, advice and services.

As outlined in the Austrade Corporate Plan (PDF, 714KB), we operate at a number of levels: national; industry; and business.

At the national level we share global commercial insights with other areas of government. At the industry/sector level, we work closely with business, industry and governments. And at the individual enterprise level we deliver services, programs and initiatives to help Australian businesses and attract foreign investment.

Specifically, we:

    * Assist Australian enterprises to capture increased export and outward investment opportunities.
    * Facilitate productive foreign direct investment (FDI) into Australia.
    * Work to reduce barriers to trade, both at the border and behind the border.
    * Administer the Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme, which provides financial assistance to potential, new and existing Australian exporters.
    * Provide advice to the Australian Government on its trade and investment policy agenda.
    * Deliver Australian consular, passport and other government services in designated overseas locations.
